Giving birth to a premature or unwell baby can be a very hard time for a mother so being able to stay together during a time when they need each other most can make all the difference.
Waitākere Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in West Auckland cares for almost 350 new-born premature and unwell babies every year. With the region’s increasing population, the unit was in need of expansion to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the community.
In partnership with the Waitemata District Health Board, the WELL Foundation has led a $5 million appeal for the SCBU to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, and provide 18 new cot spaces and accommodation to enable family members to be close to their baby at all times.
We are so pleased to support the WELL Foundation to provide the SCBU with essential life-saving equipment and facilities for whanau to make their lives a little easier at a very difficult time.
